HISTORY: The flag of Vietnam, adopted on November 30, 1955. Is a striking symbol that embodies the nation’s history, unity, and aspirations. Known as the “Red Flag with a Gold Star” or “C? ?? Sao Vàng” in Vietnamese. The flag is a powerful representation of Vietnam’s struggle for independence.
The design features a vivid red field. Symbolising the bloodshed by those who fought for the nation’s freedom and independence. In the centre of the flag, towards the hoist side, there is a bright yellow, five-pointed star. The yellow colour represents the Vietnamese people’s determination for a bright and prosperous future. While the five points of the star signify the five main social classes in Vietnamese society: workers, peasants, soldiers, intellectuals, and businesspeople.
The red background itself is reminiscent of the revolutionary flags carried by Vietnamese nationalists during their fight against French colonial rule and later against foreign intervention. The current design, with a single star, was officially adopted after the end of the Vietnam War and the reunification of North and South Vietnam in 1976.
The flag of Vietnam serves as a potent symbol of the country’s resilience, unity, and commitment to a future of peace and prosperity. Displayed proudly across the nation, it represents the collective spirit and identity of the Vietnamese people.
