HISTORY: The flag of Thailand, known as the “Tri-colour Flag” or “Trairanga.” A distinctive emblem with deep historical and cultural significance. Adopted on September 28, 1917. The flag has served as a symbol of Thailand’s unity and identity throughout its modern history.
The flag features horizontal stripes of red, white, and blue arranged from top to bottom. The red stripe symbolises the nation and its people. Representing Thailand’s long-standing history and the struggle by its citizens to maintain independence. The white stripe represents Buddhism. The predominant religion in Thailand. Reflecting purity and the role of Buddhism in shaping the nation’s culture. The blue stripe represents the monarchy and the Thai royal family. Conveying loyalty and devotion to the monarchy.
In the center of the flag, within the white stripe. There is the national emblem known as the “Trairanga Crest.” This emblem consists of a blue circular shield with a white elephant, a symbol of the Thai monarchy, on a red background. Above the shield is the Great Crown of Victory, symbolising the sovereign power of the Thai king.
