HISTORY: The Mali flag, measuring 60 x 90cm. A vivid representation of the nation’s cultural heritage, history, and aspirations. Adopted on March 1, 1961, following Mali’s independence from French colonial rule. The flag is a striking combination of colours and symbols.
The flag consists of three vertical stripes of equal width. The leftmost stripe is green, symbolising Mali’s fertile land and its association with agriculture. The centre stripe is gold, representing the country’s mineral wealth. Particularly its significance in the Sahara region. The rightmost stripe is red, symbolising the struggle for independence and the shared history of the Malian people.
In the centre of the gold stripe is the national emblem. Featuring a stylised depiction of a mosque with a central pole. The mosque represents Mali’s predominant Islamic faith and the importance of religion in the lives of its people. The national emblem is flanked by two sorghum heads, further emphasising Mali’s agricultural abundance.
Measuring 60 x 90cm, the Mali flag is proudly displayed across the country during national celebrations, events, and official functions. It serves as a unifying symbol, fostering a sense of pride and identity among the diverse population of Mali.
Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the Mali flag encapsulates the nation’s values, resilience, and commitment to progress. It stands as a powerful representation of Mali’s journey towards unity, development, and the realisation of its full potential on the international stage.
