HISTORY: The South Korean Flag, known as the Taegeukgi. Is a vibrant and symbolic representation of the Republic of Korea. Measuring 60 x 90cm, this flag is rich in cultural and historical significance. Adopted on October 15, 1949, the design encapsulates the principles of the nation and its people.
The central motif of the Taegeukgi is the Taegeuk, a blue and red circular symbol in the upper left corner. This emblem embodies the dual forces of yin and yang. Representing balance and harmony in the universe. The blue section, with its continuous trigrams, signifies the negative cosmic forces. While the red section represents the positive cosmic forces.
Surrounding the Taegeuk are four trigrams. Each positioned in the corners of the white field. These trigrams, known as Geon, Gon, Gam, and Ri, are associated with natural elements and cosmic phenomena. Symbolising the principles of heaven, earth, water, and fire.
The white field itself signifies purity and peace, reflecting the Korean people’s aspirations for a harmonious and prosperous future. Measuring 60 x 90cm. Displayed proudly, the Taegeukgi serves as a symbol of South Korea’s identity, unity, and commitment to peace.
