HISTORY: The flag of Bolivia, adopted on October 31, 1851. Is a tricolour design with deep historical significance that reflects the nation’s fight for independence and its diverse cultural heritage. Made of colourfast treated polyester material and measuring 60 x 90cm, the flag consists of three horizontal stripes of red, yellow, and green.
The red stripe at the top symbolises the valour and struggle of those who fought for Bolivia’s independence. It represents the courage and sacrifice of the people throughout the plight for freedom.
The yellow stripe in the middle signifies Bolivia’s wealth and resources. Including its rich mineral deposits. It represents the country’s prosperity and economic potential.
The green stripe at the bottom represents Bolivia’s fertility and the hope for a bright and prosperous future. It symbolises the lush landscapes, forests, and agricultural abundance of the nation.
The national coat of arms is centred on the yellow stripe and features an oval surrounded by olive branches. Within the oval are the Bolivian mountain Potosí, a Llama, and a sheaf of wheat. This emblem represents the diverse geography, fauna, and agricultural richness of Bolivia.
The flag of Bolivia serves as a powerful symbol of the nation’s struggle for independence, cultural diversity, and its aspirations for a prosperous future.
